Keyword Research
Research search volume, difficulty, and competition for any keyword — plus a GEO Opportunity score that tells you whether it’s worth tracking.
Researching a keyword
Enter a keyword, pick a location — India, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, or Canada — and hit Research. You get four stat cards:
- Search Volume — monthly searches for the term.
- Difficulty — keyword difficulty on a 0–100 scale (Low under 40, Medium under 70, High above).
- Competition — advertiser competition, 0–100%.
- GEO Opportunity — a 0–100 score of how attractive the term is for GEO tracking, with a High / Medium / Low recommendation. Average CPC is shown where available.
The GEO Opportunity score
The score blends the three signals — volume weighted heaviest, then difficulty (inverted: easier is better), then competition (inverted) — and is computed only from measured signals. If volume can't be measured, the score shows "Not measured" rather than a guess; a missing signal is dropped from the maths instead of counted as zero. From 70 the recommendation is High, from 40 Medium, below that Low.
Honest numbers here too. A metric that wasn't measured renders as "—", never as a zero, and if Upranke's keyword data has no answer for a term you'll see "Unavailable" — so you never mistake missing data for a bad keyword.
Related keywords
Each search also returns a related-keywords table — volume, competition, and CPC per term, with a one-click "Research →" to dig into any of them. This is the fastest way to expand from one seed term into a cluster.
Bulk research
Upload a CSV or XLSX of up to 500 keywords (2 MB max) to research them in one batch. Results land in a table — keyword, volume, difficulty, competition, GEO score — with per-row re-runs and a CSV export.
From research to tracking
Keywords earn their keep when they become tracked prompts — the questions Upranke runs against the AI engines on every scan. Add the winners to the brand's tracked set; from the next scan onward they feed the mention rates in Visibility Tracking.
Watch for dilution. Broad terms like generative ai make engines answer with general knowledge and drag your mention rate down without telling you anything — the same trap flagged in AI Overview & AI Mode. Intent beats volume in GEO.
